The Feast of Tabernacles (Sukkot) is the seventh and final feast of YHVH that occurs in the Fall. This is the last pilgrimage Feast of the year. This Feast is mentioned more than any of the other Feasts that we find in scripture. It was required for all the Israelites to dwell in Tabernacles or temporary booths for 7 days. This Feast serves as a reminder of God's goodness and the provision that he provided to the Israelites in the wilderness. Scriptural references for the Feast of Tabernacles: Exodus 23:16 (Also called the Feast of Ingathering), 34:22; Leviticus 23:34-43; Numbers 29:12-40; Deuteronomy 16:13-15; Ezra 3:4 and Nehemiah 8:13-18.
On the Hebrew Calendar this Feast occurs on the 15th day of Tishri five days after the Day of Atonement(Yom Kippur). Since this was a pilgrimage feast - it was required of all the Israelites to appear at the temple before the Lord and not arrive empty-handed. Tithes and offerings were given at this Feast. With no standing Temple today, many celebrate Sukkot in their backyards or local camping grounds as a commemoration of this Feast. Some build small sukkahs as instructed in Leviticus 23:40 and others decorate canopies or tents.
